Sustainability is one of the most urgent agenda items for our organizations today, yet it is also one of the most intractable. Even defining the scope of the role can be difficult — and often it seems to involve vast responsibilities, with limited authority.

Launched in January, 2024, the Sustainability Leaders Network is a new, significant response to the sustainability challenges. This initiative fills a critical need, bringing together top leaders across sectors to compare experiences, discuss potential approaches to key challenges, and identify action steps.

The full Vanguard network membership, with an annual cost of $5,000, includes the Sustainability Leaders Network, the monthly exchange, the sustainability library of content, as well as broader C-suite leadership content.

THE EXCHANGE

Members are senior executives responsible for the sustainability portfolio
Vanguard convenes and facilitates the meetings, generates meeting notes and action steps, and follows up to help ensure execution
Monthly topics are chosen by the participants themselves
Sessions are held monthly and run ≈ 60-90 minutes, with the appropriate length decided by the participants
Each session is handled situationally, ranging from discussion of a number of topics, to several longer modules on issues important to the entire group
Chatham House rules apply, so all aspects of the roundtable are confidential
Additional exchange groups may be formed as desired
All meetings are currently via Zoom

Vanguard handles the entire process, including:
Maintaining group membership
Issuing invitations, reminders and notices
Creating an agenda prior to each meeting
Moderating and leading the sessions
Handling follow up on agenda items with Sustainability Leaders and their designated executives
Producing an anonymized record of the meeting that can be shared with your team
